Debby’s remnants hit the Tri-State area on Friday with heavy rain and wind.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a statewide State of Emergency as flood watches and warnings remain in effect for much of New York. Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way also declared a State of Emergency for New Jersey effective at 6 p.m.
The New York Yankees rescheduled their game against the Rangers due to the impending weather. It will be made up Saturday as the second game of a single-admission doubleheader.
Inspectors in Manhattan responded to reports of a construction elevator accident in Inwood. No injuries were reported, and while it wasn’t clear if weather caused the incident, wind could be seen blowing the elevator all around.

With the ground already saturated and strong winds, there have been lots of calls about downed trees and power lines. From Paramus, New Jersey, to Westchester County and the Bronx — trees of all sizes have come crashing down, causing damage to homes and cars.
A massive tree caused a chain reaction of destruction in Whitestone, Queens.
Parts of the tree were crashing to the ground when a Con Ed worker arrived. The large branch narrowly misses him, in what could’ve been a serious injury.
Downed power lines started a small fire after the tree fell.
In Hillsdale, New Jersey, a downed tree shut down Kinderkamack Road from Piermont Avenue.
Winds took down trees around New York City, including on Mosholu Parkway, on a house in Auburndale, Queens and near Crotona Park.
Amid the risks of trees falling and flooding, officials are asking people to avoid being outdoors if they don’t have to.
“We’re asking New Yorkers, if you don’t have to be outdoors, don’t be outdoors,” said Mayor Eric Adams. “Particularly on our roadways, we had to do a number of rescues on the highways throughout the week.”
