Cohen had battled multiple sclerosis for over five decades and successfully overcame two cancer diagnoses. His openness and advocacy helped bring awareness to the challenges faced by those with chronic conditions.

Additionally, he authored several books about his health experiences, sharing stories to help others. “I think too many people stay closed and don’t tell the truth,” he said during a 2014 appearance on “Today.”

“I told her about the illness because I sort of learned the hard way to get it on the table,” Cohen said to Yahoo Life. “And she really didn’t blink.”

Vieira, who left her role on “Today” in 2011 to spend more time with her family, once said, “Time is one of those weird things. You can never get enough of it, and it just keeps ticking away.” She also made it clear that her loved ones, especially her husband, were her priority.
