There were signs that these fake photos were created by someone using an artificial intelligence (AI) program. In the picture on the left, for example, the woman’s right hand only had four fingers. Furthermore, reverse-image searches for more details only turned up folks reposting the fake photos. Our analysis also includes a separate narrative of a real couple with comparable ages and years of marriage. However, they didn’t look like the people in the AI-generated pictures.
Allegedly, a set of pictures that have been circulating online show a young couple getting married and then the same pair 76 years later.
On September 5, 2024, for example, X user @lippyent uploaded (archived) the picture with the caption, “76 years together.” She’s 94 and he’s 97 years old. Everything that is real endures forever. That post was viewed by nearly two million people.
Newsmax TV anchor Greta Van Susteren reposted (archived) the @lippyent post, writing, “And still beautiful ….love this post.”
The same story or a slightly altered caption that said, “76 years of marriage,” was shared by other Facebook users. She’s 94 and he’s 97 years old. That which is true lasts forever. Some of those posts received thousands of likes and shares.
However, neither picture was real. In the beginning, searches that used reverse images for both photos just produced reposts of the same story, devoid of the original news item or any further context. Furthermore, both images displayed evidence that they were created by someone using at least one artificial intelligence (AI) technology. We’ll update this post if we find out more about the person or people who shot the pictures.
