Jim was used to seeing the little girl across the street wave every day. What was it about her keen gaze that made him feel uneasy? He told his wife Sandy about his worries, but Sandy told him that the girl was just bored and didn’t need to change.
But Jim’s interest stayed strong. He couldn’t get the girl’s picture out of his mind. Sandy told him to go see his neighbours because she thought it would make him feel better.
Jim made up his mind one day to do something about it. “I’m going to talk to her parents,” he told Sandy.
As he got closer to the house, he found out something shocking. He knew the voice that answered the door; it was Juliette, a woman from his past.
The little girl ran to the door and yelled, “Daddy!” Jim’s whole world turned upside down.
Juliette said that she found out she was pregnant after they broke up. She looked everywhere for Jim but couldn’t find him. Heidi, the little girl, was his daughter.
When Jim got home, he was shocked and told Sandy the news. They had been trying for years to have kids, so this surprise news made them both shocked and happy.
A DNA test was done on Jim to prove that he was the father. The test results proved in his heart that Heidi was his daughter.
Juliette said she was sorry for any trouble this caused, but she wanted Heidi to meet her father. Jim and Sandy told her she didn’t have to say sorry because they were happy to have Heidi in their lives.
Heidi waved at Jim again that night. Once more, he waved back with happiness in his heart, enjoying his new job as a dad. He didn’t expect to become a parent, but he knew it was his true calling.
When Jim looked at Heidi, he realised that life’s surprises can bring the best gifts at times. He was thankful for the little girl’s waves, which had changed his life for good.
