Beautiful South Sudanese woman Nyakim Gatwech has faced challenges due to her dark skin. Gatwech has always advocated for self-love despite experiencing discrimination and bullying. She does not want to be told how beautiful she is by society’s standards.

Gatwech started her journey in Ethiopian and Kenyan refugee camps, where she experienced isolation and loneliness. People continued to taunt and mistreat her even after she relocated to the US. Her visage was even described as “dirty” by some. However, Gatwech made the decision that these negative aspects would not alter her self-perception.

Now referred to as the “Queen of the Dark,” Gatwech is adored by many on Instagram. She proudly expresses her affection for her skin and her Sudanese heritage. She is one of the most beautiful and courageous persons in the world. Her supporters respect her for being herself rather than attempting to live up to social norms around beauty.

Gatwech’s response to the Uber driver who advised her to lessen her skin tone demonstrates her resolve to embrace herself regardless of what other people think. She smiled and remarked, “I’d rather take the hard road.” Her message of self-love continues to inspire young Black women worldwide, and she is well respected for her courage and honesty.

Gatwech encourages young women going through similar experiences, “You are beautiful, you are unique, and there are people who love you just the way you are.” Her life story demonstrates how self-acceptance and love can transform everything.
