On October 16, emergency services were called to an explosion in Newcastle.
The tragic blast took the life of seven-year-old Archie York. Later, another body, thought to be a 30-year-old man, was found under the debris of three destroyed houses on Violet Close in Benwell.
Six more people were taken to the hospital, and officials believe no one else is missing. The other residents have been staying with friends and family nearby.

“It is with great sadness that I speak to you today following the tragic death of a young child,” Superintendent Darren Adams said at the scene. “Because of the incident early this morning, a seven-year-old boy has sadly lost his life.
“Despite the efforts of the emergency services, he tragically passed away at the scene.
“This is a truly devastating outcome.”
“I am sure the people of Elswick and Benwell, and our whole region, will join me in sending thoughts and condolences to the family and friends. The loss and pain they must feel is unimaginable.”
The family of the seven-year-old boy who died is paying tribute to him, calling him “a lovely lad.”
“Archie was my nephew, the most beautiful, funny, and caring little boy, and his name deserves to be shouted from the rooftops! We all love you so much, little man; you didn’t deserve this,” his aunt Abbie York said. She added that the whole family is “devastated and heartbroken beyond words.”
Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of both people who lost their lives.
