Passenger sent heartbreaking selfie to family before Brazil plane crashed and killed everyone on board

Among the 61 passengers who tragically perished in a plane crash in Brazil, one individual shared a selfie with her family just moments before the unfortunate event took place.

It has been previously reported that VoePass Flight 2283, carrying 61 passengers, tragically crashed into a gated community in Vinhedo on Friday, August 9.

The airline has confirmed that the twin-engine turboprop aircraft was en route to Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paulo, with 57 passengers and four crew members on board at the moment of the accident. Regrettably, there were no survivors.

Voepass has released a statement conveying profound sorrow regarding the tragic loss of all 61 passengers on flight 2283, affirming their fatalities at the site. The company highlighted its commitment to offering extensive assistance to the victims’ families and is collaborating closely with the appropriate authorities to examine the details of the incident.

The aircraft departed from Cascavel Airport at 11:46 AM local time, according to CBS News.

At 11:47 AM, while Flight 2283 was ascending, a 23-year-old passenger by the name of Rosana Xavier sent a series of distressing messages to her family.

In a message relayed by her mother, Rosemeire Xavier, to TV Globo, as reported by the Daily Mail, she stated, “We have been flying for two hours. We are about to land in the rain. I am feeling extremely anxious about this flight.” Rosana also added, “I can assure you that the aircraft is rather old.”

She subsequently informed her family that there was a “broken seat” on the flight, remarking, “Chaos,” before taking one final selfie that captured her expressionless demeanor.

This is the selfie she sent:

Rosemeire, feeling deeply troubled by the concerning messages from her daughter, requested Rosana to recite a Bible verse in an effort to soothe her anxieties. Subsequently, she learned of her daughter’s situation through a news broadcast on television.

“I was in despair,” the bereaved mom said. “I started running around the house screaming.”

She clarified that her daughter was employed remotely in the city of Franco de Rocha, located in São Paulo, yet was obligated to participate in meetings bi-monthly in Toledo, Paraná.

Rosemeire stated, “She assisted with the household shopping and had purchased her own vehicle. Everything she possessed was dedicated to me, my husband, and my daughters. Her sole focus was on us, and her financial resources were intended for supporting our home.”

1. Disturbing video footage depicting the moments leading up to the tragic crash has been circulated online, illustrating the aircraft spiraling uncontrollably before plummeting and colliding with the ground behind a group of trees near residential areas. Authorities have confirmed that the aircraft did not strike any homes, and there were no injuries reported among individuals on the ground.

Numerous individuals who lost their lives on the ill-fated flight have been identified, among them the “seasoned” pilot Captain Danilo Santos Romano, co-pilot Humberto de Silva, and flight attendants Débora Soper Avila, aged 29, and Rubia Silva de Lima, aged 41, as reported by Globo TV News.

Additional victims comprised an elderly couple, José Cloves Arruda, aged 76, and his wife, Maria Auxiliadora Vaz de Arruda, aged 74, along with three-year-old Liz Ibba dos Santos, who was accompanied by her father, 41-year-old Rafael Fernando dos Santos, according to the report.

The flight included a number of physicians traveling to a seminar, among them Arianne Albuquerque Estavan Risso and Mariana Comiran Belim, both of whom are clinical oncology residents at the Cascavel Cancer Hospital (Uopeccan).

FlightRadar24 reported on X (formerly Twitter) that an “active warning for severe icing” was issued for altitudes ranging from 12,000 feet to 21,000 feet in the vicinity of the plane crash.

It was observed that during the last minute of its flight, the aircraft’s transponder indicated a vertical speed ranging from 8,000 to 24,000 feet per minute.

As reported by AP News, a statement from Globo’s meteorological center indicated that it “confirmed the likelihood of ice formation in the Vinhedo area,” with local media referencing analysts who suggested that icing could be a contributing factor to the tragic incident.

However, Brazilian aviation expert Lito Sousa suspects that weather conditions alone might not explain what happened.

Sousa stated, “Examining an air crash solely through images may result in inaccurate conclusions regarding the causes. However, we can observe a plane experiencing a loss of support and lacking horizontal speed. In this state of flat spin, regaining control of the aircraft is impossible.”

Our thoughts continue to go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.
